3 goals seal an amazing comeback win against 10 man Man City
This game of football is so unpredictable ; I actually woke up at 3.30 am to watch the game between Wolves and City ; at half time I had switched off the TV and went to bed, convinced that there was no justice in the football world, with Wolves conceding a very dubious (hardly any intended contact) penalty taken twice by England international Raheem Sterling before the goal was accepted.
Wolves were down 1 - 0 against a 10 man city side ; To make matters worse, they went down 2 - 0 after Sterling lobbed the ball over Patricio in the 55th minute to make it 2 - 0.
It was as if a script out of the Twilight Zone ; then came this man Adama Traore ; an unstoppable and unmarkable player - the stuff of nightmares for opposing teams. Incredibly fast, skillful, strong and a good footballing brain to boot.
He rounded off a brilliant Wolves counter, Neves stealing the ball off the careless Sterling and Adama unleashed a thunderbolt from 25 yards leaving the City goalkeeper Bravo no chance.
1 - 2 ; Game On !
In the 81st minute, Adama again stole or bumped off a tiring Mendy making a mockery of his International standing, nutmegged Brazilian Fernandinho and passed the ball out of reach of Rodrigo for Raul Jiminez to slot home.
2 - 2 ; We have a Game !
In the 89th minute, an enlightend Matt Doherty did a neat 1 - 2 with Jiminez, rounded off 1 desperate lunge from Gundauan and curved the ball passed the hapless Bravo.
3 - 2 ; Wolves.
Needless to say, the top blew off Molineux that evening, with people hugging, crying and just plain drunkedly happy with the wicked win over the Champions.
Wolves, you have arrived.

Wolves 4 Bestikas 0
A masterclass in controlling play, with fine wing form from Pedro Neto, Winback Reuben Vinagre and clinical finishing from Diogo Jota (hat- trick) and Leander Dendoncker.
Of their new boys, Taylor Perry, Kilman, Burr, and Otosowi impressed tremendously.
Wolves, the future looks very brght. !

In the High Pressure World of KPop, a princess says good bye. Goo Hara RIP
Gone at 28 years old ; still a child
The world of KPop is unrelenting ; there is tremendous stress and pressure for the starlets to dance, sing and appear to be everyone's favourite poster girl or boy. Ever since Psy made worldwide headlines with "Gangnam Style", the world has been fascinated by the multitude of groups from Korea (SNSD,Girls Generation, Shinee, BTS, Kara, Skarf and 2NE1 just to name a few) who make dancing and the Korean language and culture so alluring
Alone and in a fishbowl, Hara took her own life.
Goo Hara took her own life on 24th Nov 2019, just 1 month after her best Unni Sulli did the same thing at only 25 years of age. After Kara disbanded in 2016, Hara was trying to make a solo comeback in Japan and was recently there from 14 - 19 November.
The stress of being constantly watched, having no personal life, and everything controlled in an almost regimental manner must have driven her to despair. She filed a police report against her abusive hairdresser boyfriend last year but I think, she was just so lonely after her best friend Sulli died. The relentless KPop system and company management styles needs to further looked into and better treatment of the boys and girls is a must.
Their dance hits Mister, Step and Mamma Mia are really world class, and they even came to Singapore in 2015 to perform as I recall.
Rest in Peace, Hara. You will be missed.

Latest European Match Wolves 1 Slovan Bratislava 0
The last game at Molineux saw Wolves beat Slovan Bratislava 1 - 0 thanks to a great assist from Traore and beautiful header from Raul Jiminez.
They are in Europe, 5th in the Premier League. Well I am dreaming aren't I ??
Another win on the road, this time against Bournemouth. Go Wolves !
This is AFC Bournemouth TV channel, so the commentary is strictly non biased. I must say the Wolves team are riding high. Keep humble, keep hard working, pushing all areas and don't slip up.
We have 2 - 3 injuries to key players such as Wily Boly (ankle), Pedro Neto and Ryan Bennett. However, the squad now seem to have enough depth that even England Under 21 Morgan Gibbs White has trouble being chosen for the starting inne up.
Amongst all the new players (new signings, U23), only Max Kilmann and Reuben Vinagre truly impress. So the starting 11 are chosen from these top 16. I really hope they have enough in depth quality.
Keepers
Patricio (Portugal No. 1, but prone to soft goals from time to time)
Ruddy (Very strong cover to Rui)
Defenders and WingBacks
Reuben Vinagre (hard man, superb off the ball running)
Ryan Benett (hard man with long throws)
Wily Boly (injured)
Romain Saiss (Moroccan international superb as a cover)
Leander Dendoncker (Belgian international and also superb as a right back)
Conor Coady (Mr. Captain Fantastic, England player but no call up )
Jesus Vallejeo (not good enough)
Max Kilman (impressive youngster)
Midfielders
Reuben Neves (playing hot and cold, needs more consistency)
Joao Moutinho (My word, 34 years of age, fantastic buy from AM)
Matt Doherty (superb wingback)
Jonny Otto (superb right wingback)
Morgan Gibbs White (rarely started of late)
Taylor Perry (getting there)
Strikers
Raul Jiminez (on form)
Diogo Jota (hungry as anything)
Adama Traore (unplayable and unstoppable on his day ; takes 3 defenders on and wins)
Patrick Cutrone (so so, needs to up his game)
Pedro Neto (getting strong, needs to be less selfish)
Comments from the Bournemouth fans "Wolves are so well drilled". Absolutely. Everything works like clockwork, everyone covers for everyone else.
They are on a purple patch.
Next week Braga away 1 - 1 my prediction
Saturday 30th Nov. Wolves 3 : Sheffield Utd 0.
Happy Birthday to my Dad Geoffrey ; You would have been 100 Years Old Today
My father Geoffrey Abisheganaden was born on 23rd Nov 1919. He was a talented, handsome, yet humble man. He was God fearing and a loving father to his 2 naughty boys John and I. He passed away peacefully at the age of (almost) 91 on 20 September 2010, 9 years. ago.
I would like to wish him Happy Birthday (23rd Nov 2019) in heaven, or wherever he is and I love him very much. We are both blessed with his temperament, kindness and diligence. I will leave this post with as many photographs below to show the side of the man whom I called Papa.

Our Economy is in the Doldrums. Will 2020 be worse or will we see good times again ?
Promenade des Anglais 2 Dec 2018
The alarm bells are not exactly ringing themselves like crazy, but the economic situation here in Singapore has been on the slow slide down to negative territory.
Recently in October, I happened to go to Queensway Shopping Centre and bought a new pair of business shoes, as well as a pair of the latest ASICS Kayanos. Both the shopkeepers I spoke with were reminiscing about the 'good old days' just perhaps 9 years ago and never seeing their sales so bad in their decades of working in Queensway.
I was so taken aback that I did not even want to negotiate a discount with them and empathised about their plight. The new Gig economy whereby everything is being migrated first to the Internet Sales Portals like Q10, Lazada and Wish just to name 3 of maybe 100 B to C sites spells the death knell of the bricks and mortar retail shops, the mom and pop shops in the heartlands.
My friends are quite cut throat about not supporting the retail shops and will go so far as to check the prices from the shops and then buy them online for perhaps 30% cheaper.
Such is the sad reality of the traditional business which is fast going the way of the dinosaur.
Zurich Airport 2 Dec 2018
The same feeling that one day AI, algotrithmic software and smart websites will be the end of our business. Not so fast, Speedy Gonzales. We have certain value propositions which no one else can replicate. Its not consumer goods like TV nor the fridge. Our equipment which we sell to the Quality Assurance Departments of companies dealing in Solar Panels, Lithium Ion Batteries, Food Research, Advanced Remanufacturing, Internet of Things and BioPharmaceuticals still require the element of DOMAIN KNOWLEDGE APPLICATION AND SERVICE SUPPORT.
The know how or domain knowledge of the application for these vast array of equipment still lies with the distributor, meaning Us. Hence, there is still some ways to go before the consumer gets so savvy that they can install high end environmental simulation equipment - something which no one learns in polytehcnic or mechanical engineering so our niche is still safe for perhaps the next 20 years.
2 dec 2018 Beautiful Day on the Promenade des Anglais with the Cote Azur in the Background
There are only 3 options if we want to continue. 1. Move part of the operations to a lower cost economy with cheaper price point products and compete in the traditional markets of electronics, automotive and semiconductors from there. 2. Move up the value chain and offer higher value added services like Test Services for pharmaceutical industry and remain in Singapore. 3. Build our own brand and push on with Singapore designed quality and reliability at the same time capturing a niche in a non traditional market which we are one of perhaps 3 players worldwide.
Well, we have done all 3.
2020 will be challenging on the local front, however, with the overheads at an all time low, and recurrent revenue streams coming in from non-traditional sources, I can say that we can do surprisingly well, if we get the lucky breaks real soon.
Carpe Diem.

Barcelona 4 - 7 Dec 2016 Marina and La Rambla
Taken from the rooftop of our gorgeous hotel,
Dequesa de Cardona Hotel
One of my all time favourite cities in Europe, Barcelona evokes a sense of "joie de vrie" or joy of life from the people, the Catalnonians. Barcelona city is a seaside port, and the marina is one of the many highlights of this amazing place.
Our hotel when we stayed, Dequesa de Cardona is located along the Passeig Colom right by the marina, and its 5 minutes minutes from the southern start of the La Ramblas which is the walking street where there are a multitude of shops, steet artists, tourists, together with pickpickets (Barcelone has the dubious honor of being the world's pickpocket capital). I would highly recommend its hotel, the staff are really friendly and helpful, the room was huge for the reasonable price ((500 ft2) quiet facing the indoor courtyard) of EUR 151.5 hich included a WONDERFUL buffett spread (costing EUR 18 each) serving 6 types of Nespresso, omelettes, fried eggs done any style, so many different kinds of cheese andthe piece de resistance, the Jamon Iberico ham (small pieces) - best in the world !
I had the shock of my life when I was pickpocketed and had my handphone stolen right under my nose by a couple of petty thieves. So, travellers be warned, keep your wallets, credit cards, passports and cash in separate places and only take what you need for the day.
I saw with my own eyes 2 guys chasing madly after some pickpocket, not realising I was the next foolhardy victim.
Atop Parc Guell
There are literally more than a dozen places to visit and soak in the history and culture. 3 of them are related to the famous architect and designer Antoni Gaudi. The picture above, is Parc Guell, which Gaudi was commissioned by the Government to create a modern theme park of sorts and which he did with his signature "no sharp edges" style. There was also the La Pedrera Building which was another signature building and the world famous La Sagrada Familia church first built in the 1500s, and Gaudi was the last designer to add on his touches to the outer facade. The aithorities plan to finish the church in 2025, 100 years after his sad death after being hit by a tram and left to die on the road in 1925.
The La Pedrera Building is a communal house meant for several families perhaps an extended family home.
La Rambla is both an attraction for its multiple popup stands selling lots of football momentos for their world class Barcelona team, street artists who go to painstaking lengths to amaze people with their makeup and art, as well as the street artists, painters, student doctors offering free health checks and musicians which make this place a "Unique Walking Street World Renowned. "
When we visited Barcelona 3 years ago for 5 nights, the place evoked a magical, bohemian and definately artsy feel about it. Never mind the pickpockets, I thoroughly enjoyed my visit there and would recommend to anyone who plans to go, do keep your valuables close at hand, separate your cards, money, passport and store them carefully. Never bring more than you need for that day of sightseeing.
So, in a nutshell, what are the top 8 places of interest to visit in Barcelona ?
8. Iberico Ham Museum, La Rambla
7. Born District - small stylish restaurants serving tapas ; must try the vermouth.
6. Montjuic hill, Jaon Miro museum
5. Marina, eat some fabulous seafood there
4. Parc Guell
3. La Pedrera - amazing architecture, and do visit the rooftop to view the chimneys !
2. La Rambla - watch your wallets and passports
1. La Sagrada de Familia (Sacred Family Church), inside decor is mind blowing.

The Wanderers to beat Villa by 3 - 0
This is the first time this season I feel so bullish about the Wolves. They have come of age and despite the small squad of about 21, Nuno has managed to blood several youngsters and certainly some have proven their mettle in the European and Carabao Cup games.
It is definately a good sign that the team has got strength in depth, and following the injuriestto Wily Boly, and Romain Saiss, Ryan Bennett, Nuno has managed to find good replacements in the form of Neto, Vinagre (excellent),Kilman and even Patrick Cutrone.
Today's match against Aston Villa will be a Midlands derby and though the Villa are not very consistent, Wolves are peaking right now with Raul Jiminez, Diego Jota, Adama Traore all scoring lots of goals.
Defensively, Wolves need to be more rock solid, and Patricio has let in some pretty tame goals, he should buck up. Coady had made some howlers in the past, as has Dendoncker and Saiss too. Its easy to blame the defenders when a goal against the team is scored, but if they can replicate their form as they did against Man City 3 weeks ago, they are practically unbeatable and can trump any team in the Premier League.
I am optimistic tonight, they will show their bite and win the derby by 3 - 0.
Kickoff Time is 10.00 pm.
Post Script : I was wrong about the scoreline, Villa struck late into extra-time to edge the scoreline to 2 - 1 ; Hats off to them though. They played their hearts out.
Well done the Wanderers !!!

Ho Chi Minh Visit 28 - 30 Oct 2019
Have a snack and a Tiger beer at the 5th floor bar and I get a wonderful view of the surroundings particularly the Unification Palace in the background.
Ho Chi Minh's own Notre Dame
Vietnam was a colony of France in the 19th Century.
Reunification Palace. The signing of the peace treaty between the North and the South and thus unifying one Vietnam in 1975 was in this historic building
Very French Like Magazine Booths similar to the ones selling magazines and books on the left bank of the river Seine
2 weeks ago I made a business trip to Ho Chi Minh (formerly Saigon) and I was impressed by the economic progress the country has made in the last 15 years. Since the terrible Vietnam war which saw the US retreat amidst accusations of many terrible atrocities committed to the Vietnamese people, the country has in the 44 years since come a long way.
Though the country is Communist ruled, the economy has opened up to many capitalist industrialists and there is a great sense of progress among the people in terms of
standard of living and tourism is one of the key revenue generators contributing to the GDP of the country. The others being car manufacturing, textile and agrculture.
There is a young population, many of whom are bilingual speakers, English and Vietamese Some are even trilingual, with many speaking passable Mandarin to cater to the burgeoning Chinese investors, visitors and tourists flocking to the country in the last 3 - 4 years.
Many people are hoping that Vietnam will benefit from the fallout of the Trade standoff between the 2 economic powers US and China and that is why I am also there to try to get a tiny foothold into this country of almost 70 million.

An Oasis in Bangkok - Nice Residence
A none too imposing sign outside
I have been coming to Thailand for almost 25 years on and off mainly for business. The last 2 years, my favourite place to rest my weary head after a long day's work is Nice Residences. Situated off Sukhumvit 63, along a small soi in the Ekkamai district, it has all the simple creature comforts for a short stay in the city.
Forget 5 star elegance and pretentious in your face ostentatious faux neo classical interior designs. No bell boys, nor fancy carpets, bubble lifts, high tech gyms nor buffett breakfasts for the masses.
This 2 star hotel offers the basic amenities which I truly appreciate :
a) Quiet oasis in the city
b) Friendly staff who recognise me by face and are very informal and relaxed.
c) Large 400 ft2 room with balcony, clean with bathtub, free wifi, aircond.
d) 24 hour gym with running and cross training machines
e) 10 m lap pool
f) Proximity to the nice pubs, restaurants offering so many types of food, Japanese,
Korean Western, you name it. The feeling is laid back bohemian.
Super Bonus
d) Waking up to birds chirping outside your balcony and the greenery of a large garden
from 2 bungalows just next door. It is a major change to the hustle and bustle of the
workday and I get to chill - right in the heart of Bangkok
The peace and quiet of the country just outside my balcony is priceless !!
Its roughly 30 minutes by taxi (BHT 250 or so) from Suvanabhum airport to the Ekkamai District and there are many taxis, Uber vehicles and even motorcycle taxis available, moving around is never easier.Traffic in Bangkok can be erratic as is the fumes during rush hour, so its best to arrive late morning or early afternoon and check - in.
For food and entertainment in the evenings, there are many eating establishments serving French Food, sushi, wine and cigars, a huge Don Don Donki Building with at least a dozen Japanese restaurants, numerous 7 - 11s nearby if you crave a snack. And of course the 2 must haves whenever I stay here ;
a) The Bee Hoon Soup along Sukhumvit 63 (see previous post)
b) Coffee and Tuna Sandwich grilled with Americano at Rocky Rooster just opposite along the Sukhumvit 63 main road.
Pool 10 m long for dipping and just lounging around
The best thing about Nice Residences ? The price : It is BHT 1,250 per night (or approximately S$ 55 or (US$ 38). You can't get even a capsule hotel for this price in Singapore !
Really a super deal for small business owners like myself. Inexpensive, No fuss, clean,
convenient accomodation right in the heart of the city.
Its not the Ritz, nothing fancy, no buffett breakfast, the nearest BTS is almost 2 km away, so there is no good (read MBK or Siam Paragon) shopping centres nearby. The seedy bars of Nana and Soi Cowboy are nowhere in sight.
Suits me to a "T".
The Lounge at Nice Residences
So make a beeline to this Oasis in the City, the next time you want a change of scenery.

When Changing Money for Overseas Travel, choose money changer with smallest 'spread'
This might seem elementary for some, but whenever I travel overseas, and need to change a reasonable sum of money, it is better to change at a downtown money changer. The reason is that, they offer a smaller 'spread' between buying the S$ in exchange for (say) Thai Baht and when I return the remaining money can be sold back to the same exchange centre or similar for minimal loss.
For example, if I changed $1000 at today's rate, the Changi Bureau de Change gives me a rate of S$ 1 for BHT 20.8. So for $1000 changed, I would receive BHT 20,800.
If after my short trip, and I used only credit cards and changed back the BHT 20,800. The rate they 'buy' from me is BHT 25 for S$ 1. Hence, that 20,800 would change back to S$ 832.
I would have lost $168 in the process or $18.80 for every $100 I changed to BHT and did not spend. That's 16.8 %. A huge commission for the money exchanger.
The spread by the money changers in Changi is 25 - 20.8 or 4.2 ;
Look at the Thai airport, for every S$ 1000 I changed, I would get BHT 21,350. So when I left Thailand and changed back, the 21,350 would change (sell BHT to get S$) 21,350 divide by 22.75 or I get back S$ 938.
I would still lose S$ 62 per S$ 1,000 or S$ 6.2 per $100 changed.
But the spread is less 22.75 - 21.35 or 1.4
In this recent trip of mine, as I did not have the luxury of time (perhaps poor time management on my part), I bought Thai Baht at the Suvanabhum airport and sold Thai Baht on my return at the Suvanabhum airport before heading back.
What's the Best Way to Save On the Exchange Rate ?
Estimate as accurately how much I need tor the trip in cash.
Before going on trips, if need to change money, estimate as accurately how much you expect to spend in cash. If you spend up to 95% of the cash you convert, well then good for you. You needn't have to change back the money to your local currency.
Go to any money changer in town
(Chinatown People's Park Complex has many, little India too , as well as Harborfront). They should offer you a better exchange rate. That is more foreign currency to sell to you when you buy with your Singapore dollars)
Buy what you need for your trip
They should offer you easily BHT 21.8 to BHT 22 per S$
Choose the One with the Smallest Spread
Normally they will not post the spread so clearly on the electronic board, but the spread normally is way smaller than what the Bureau de Change or money changers offer to you at the Changi Airport terminals. Choose the Money Changer with the Smallest Spread. They are all quite competitive, hence the downtown changers will not deviate much from each other.
Return to the same money changer
Change money back to your S$ currency with the same exchange which offers smallest spread. This way you can pare the loss if you need to change back to S$ currency.
Bangkok Sukhumvit 63, 112 / 3 Best Soupy Bee Hoon : My Review
The exterior of this non discrepit shop is almost non existent for tourists
I am a sucker for a nice bee hoon (while vermicelli) soup, and there has been none finer of late than this little coffee shop, located along Sukhumvit 63. I will post the actual address below.
The bee hoon bowls come in 2 sizes Small and Large. Fresh from a short trip to Thailand, I tried the small bowl for 60 Bath (or about S$ 2.80 or US$ 2.20). The vermicelli was very soft yet springy and the condiments were spring onions, some shallots, minced pork and there was fried pork dumplings, pork balls and some fish cake.
The soup pork bone broth was rich and very tasty. with spring onions, pork bone stock, some minced pork
The owners are a husband and wife team probably in their '40s.
Today, I ordered the large bowl of bee hoon t'ng (soup) and was very pleased at the offerings (see below). Some tau foo (bead curd), pork ball, fish cake, fish ball, a streamed dumpling, a fried dumpling, minced pork, shallots, spring onions - the works.
It was springy yet soft and very flavourful. The spring onions were freshly cut and the dumplings were all cooked very recently. There is some fish sauce added to the soup to make it an extremely tasty offering for breakfast or lunch. The large bowl costs Baht 70 or S$ 3.50 (US$ 2.80) but very satisfying to say the least.
The Piece de Resistance
My Review
Taste : 4.8 / 5
Location : Subjective
Price : 4.5 / 5 (OK, I am biased but the large bowl can fill your lunch cravings)
Service : 4 / 5
Overall Value : 4. 4 / 5 (Excellent)

The 4 Horsemen of the Apocalypse. More and More like Fiction to Me.
"The four riders on white, red, black, and pale horses symbolizing pestilence, war, famine, and death, respectively." Rev. 6:2–8.
In the book of Revelations in the Bible, the 4 Horsemen of the Apocalype namely
a) pestilience
b) war
c) famine
d) death
would signal the end of time. As we enter bravely into the 3rd millennium after the birth of Jesus Christ (AD 2020), the 4 Horsemen look more and more like 4 fictional characters from the latest Pikachu or Cosplay movie.
War
With the multipolar world, the world has mitigated the threat of war. Yes, there are numerous countries with nuclear capability, however, that scenario in itself is a no-win game. If we go down that path, it is Mutually Assured Destruction. The probability of this happening is quite low, I would assume.
Wars are still fought on regional and sectoral levels. However, the art of diplomacy has replaced the threat war. The winner takes all the riches as in the Game of Thrones or in the past is no longer relevant nowadays. Wars are namely fought mainly for independence of the unique peoples and not to gain riches of the enemy as in the past.
Famine
The world is facing an obesity and diseases related to obesity are much more than compared to famine. Thanks to the efforts of many courageous NGOs and the United Nations, there are more people dying from obesity and high blood pressure than from starvation. That is a fact now.
Pestilence
The advancement of medicine and the swiftness of the frontline doctors and scientists in finding cures, for diseases such as the SARS, bird 'flu and others gives me confidence that another pandemic on the scale of the Black Death in Europe and parts of Asia is highly unlikely to occur.
Thanks to almost 200 years of genuine advances in medicine and science, most of these diseases caused by virues and bacteria are well under control.
SUBNOTE : Today is 27th March 2020. The world is in the throes of a Global Pandemic called Covid 19. I admit I was too optimistic in saying that Pestilence is well under control. So, given time perhaps by the end of the year, we will have the vaccine. By that time, the world as we know it will have changed totally in the way people meet, entertain and communicate.
So I am wrong on this count !
Death
Everyone succumbs to death. However, as the world is becoming more automated and the convergence of human and bioengineering. DNA and Genome sequencing are will become very mainstream as a result, we will have super or Alpha humans who will be living much longer and healthier lives. People who are born today in developed societies with the advancement of medicine, proper nutrition and exercise, can expect to live well past 100 years of age.
Japan is one such rapidly aging society.
The 4 Horsemen ? Well, its time they rode off into the sunset just all those comic characters whose time and relevance have gone.
They wont be missed. Really.
14th March 2020 Addendum - Pestilience
I was wrong on this count ; we are now in the midst of a global Pandemic called the Covid 19. While the mortality rate of this as a percentage of the infected remains low (about 2 - 3 %), the rate of transmission and the scale of escalation of this Coronavirus is unprecendeted in modern times.
At the time of writing, there are over 140,000 cases and mortality globally of 3.2% of the infected. There are close to 80,000 who have recovered fully and this is indeed an encouraging sign.
The only thing to fear is fear itself and we must keep calm, wash our hands often, don't touch our faces, practice common sense and social distancing to keep our mental spirits up and wait for a vaccine which will surely come sooner rather than later.
Israel's Government Migal Galilee Research Institute is about to begin production of a coronavirus vaccine for the COVID 19, although the general population will only get one probably in 6 months earliest.
So, we had better learn to live with the risk of infection and stay as healthy and strong both physically and mentally possible.
Carpe Diem !!
