Physical and Mental Pain Management 101

How do the most successful people thrive ? In the most competitive or harshest environments, it is the mental aspect of the game. Listen to good advice, but most importantly listen to your inner self - guidance through iron will and rock hard determination to succeed.

"You run the first 50K with your body and the next 50K with your mind"

Our bodies are limitless entities when we treat it right, by feeding / training it with the following

a) Top Grade Fuel (Healthy Food)

b) Enough Rest

c) Mental Preparation

d) Regular reviews over time.

Pain Management - applying all of the below at various points in time.

Having a thick skin is 90% of the battle won

Having the ability to handle physical and mental pain while still pursuing the top goal is 100% way to succeed.

Having a small ego or open mind is also 99% of the battle won

Having courage is 99% of the battle won

Having tenacity to bounce back from all manner of setbacks is also 99%

Having an iron will to win is also 99% of the battle won.

Listening to good and pragmatic advice and acting on the advice is 100% won strategy.

Discipline 101

 Discipline

What it is : It is a  core value which you realise you MUST do like, for example, waking up at 5am in the morning to run 10 to 14km daily for 5 to days a week to condition my body to be ready for the ardous task of completing a marathon, in perhaps 6 - 9 months later.

It is forgoing many of the nice things like, sleeping late, lazing around, eating and drinking excessively as well as not having numerous occasional meetups with occasional friends for the sake of just 'catching up' when I have a goal to achieve.

Discipline and Sacrifice are like brother and sister.

Discipline and Hard Work are also relatives

Discipline is learning to say "No" when time is up and I need to rest in order to perform well mentally and physically for the next day.

Discipline is a MUST HAVE if I am to achieve any major goal in life.

Can I get 200,000 Views by March ?

                                                                           in early 1964

I intend to post as many of my thoughts as long as I am able. The reason why I started this blog way back in 2008 was to record my thoughts and views and as I age, I could look back and assess whether my thinking had matured or changed with each passing phase.

People are not aware that they lose cognizance or gain 'intelligence' or 'wisdom' hence the need for me to pen my thoughts ever so often.

Thanks to everyone who has bothered to read my blog, it was, is and will be a non commercial entity encompassing my own (biased or somewhat coloured by my life experience) experiences.

You are most welcome to post your views in the comments section.

I have had over 200 comments, some are just Bots, but many are long long friends and acquaintances over the years.

The power of social media is so far reaching and wonderful if it is harnessed in the right way.*

I'm optimistic my blog can hit 200,000 views in a month's time.

Prove me right readers.

Ed's Note

We hit 200,000 views on 19th March 2024.

Thanks Readers and Followers !

5 Things to Enable me to Get There

There are 5  values I have learnt from the School of Life which separates the winners and the 'also rans' in life. Let me list them down broadly. Having the Vision and Grand Plan for my business or myself is easy.  Pursuing it and doing the day to day steps to achieve the Grand Plan is always the toughest part.

1. Discipline

2. Focus on my tasks

(a) Grand plan laid out - refer to it

(b) day to day

(c) mid term

3. Resilience, Grit, Physical and Mental Pain Management

4. Doing what Must be Done even if I hate the task

5.  Rest when necessary.

Reflect on these 5 Values for a while.

Lovely Bak Chor Mee ( Minced Pork Noodles) at Botanic Gardens

I love a good Bak Chor Mee every once in a while. That is the  small springy noodles called Mee Kia or Eu Mee which is dipped in a boiling pot of pork broth for a couple of minutes and together with a host of other ingredients like pork loin, pork ball, a sliver of fried dace fish, minced pork and some chopped spring onions. Please see below for a better understanding of the description.

Lovely to Look at Very Tasty from the first bite

There is a recent small food court which has recently been opened off Evans Road, beside the NUS swimming pool. Called Sprouts, it is air conditioned (I guess for the gentrified people living in the neighbourhood who come over regularly after their morning walks and hoping for a nice breakfast together with their Kopi Kosong) and there are 4 stalls in total.

The noodle stall is run by a husband and wife team (I am assuming). The offerings are all noodles based and the Bak Chor Mee comes in 2 types :

a) Basic Bak Chor Mee which costs $4.50 (US$ 3.80)

b) Bak Chor Mee with Abalone slices - wait wow for $6.50. (UDS$ 5.70)

There has been a glut of inexpensive abalone and other seafood from Japan, I guess because of the embargo of Japanese seafood into China since the authorities released the water held from the Fukushima plant area into the sea.

Honestly writing, the noodles are springy and tasty.

There is ample vinegar and the ingredients are plentiful.

The soup is also very tasty.

Overall I give this dish a 4.5 out of 5 ;

Goodbye Cousin Pete ; Gone Too Soon. Peter Abisheganaden (1960 - 2024)

The cousins (circa 2010) at Selangor Sports Club

From left : Me, Peter and Gerard

My first cousin, Peter Abisheganaden, who was 2 years my senior, passed away last week on the 8th Feb 2024 around 5.15 pm. It was a major shock to all in the Abisheganaden family, close friends, business associates. The polo community worldwide was in shock as Peter had been a tremendous ambassador of the sport since he ventured into it, in his early teens.

He leaves behind his beloved wife of 28 years, Natasha, and 3 beautiful children, Zack, Zaine and Zulaiha.

We were close when we were in our tween years. Peter and Jacintha are the children of my father's younger sibling Alex Abisheganaden.

I remember fondly the days in the late 60s to mid 70s when we went almost weekly to Uncle Sudan's (as he was fondly called by all members of the family) place to have some dinner made by Aunty Eileen's maid. They lived in a single storey bungalow along Jalan Pemimpin those days till about the late 1980s.

Peter moved up to Malaysia, in the early 90s if I recall him telling me. After his migration up North, I met him perhaps less than a dozen times over the 30 years he has been in Malaysia. I recall we all went for his wedding to Natasha in 1995.

He was a gentleman, a great guy and someone whom I had looked up to when I was in my early teens.

One memory I recall back in those salad days was when we were in his garden and I wanted to practice my karate moves. So he put on his boxing gloves and danced around me, jabbing me. I was confused and got one square on my jaw, and went down.

His love for horses, horse riding as well as show jumping etc was developed in the late 70s. I believe he represented Singapore in equestrian jumping and won the SEA games gold medals in the 90s.

A true avid sportsman, talented businessman, father, husband and all round great ambassador of the sport of kings.

Rest well, Pete. We had so many missed opportunities in this life.
